 What is metadata?

Metadata is information about data. It usually contains information such as who, what, when, where and how were data produced. It is of great importance that all information about a data set is archived along with the data for future scientific work. 

Any information available should be provided.

  • Authors of data set (if different from prinicpal investigator) 
  • Data set title (phrase similar to the title of a publication)
  • Reference(s) (with URI i.a.)
  • Prinicpal investigator for each parameter
  • Measurement method for each data series (with url i.a.)
  • Comment for each parameter
  • Comment for data set or documentation with further details or supplemental information
  • Abstract of data set(s) (in case of a data publication)
  • Quality flag for each data value
